SUMMARY:Nigerians in Saint Petersburg to Celebrate Democracy Day on June 13
DESCRIPTION:Nigerians in Saint Petersburg will celebrate Nigeria’s Democracy Day on June 13, 2026. The event is organized by the Nigerian Community Russia, Saint Petersburg branch.\nThe announcement came through the community’s WhatsApp group. Cynthia, the acting Public Relations Officer, invited all members to attend. She also extended the invitation to loved ones from other African countries and Russia. Cynthia shared how fellow Nigerians have already started contributing financially to make the event a success.\nThe Social and Sports Director, Philip Riches, spoke exclusively to Afro News about the purpose of the gathering. “This is a great opportunity for us to know ourselves,” Riches said. “It is bad for us to meet on the streets of Saint Petersburg or in the metro and not even recognize each other.” He added that the event will feature games, dancing, and entertainment. But the biggest achievement, he noted, is simply seeing each other in one place.\nThe acting Secretary, Comrade Alabetutu Ibukun David, who also serves as President of the Yoruba Community in Saint Petersburg, called this a good opportunity for Nigerians to celebrate Democracy Day alongside fellow Nigerians at home and across the globe. When asked why the event is scheduled for June 13 instead of June 12, he told Afro News that June 12 falls on a Friday. Many community members would be busy at work. The community later held a poll on their WhatsApp group, and the majority agreed on June 13.\nThe interim President, Dr. Andrew Suberu, sent a voice message to the community appreciating their support for the forthcoming event. He urged all Nigerians in Saint Petersburg to be part of the community. “Community needs everyone,” Dr. Suberu said in his voice note. He also encouraged Nigerians to turn up and participate in the next election, which will bring a fully elected executive committee on board.\nThe Nigerian in Saint petersburg, through their community is one of the strongest African communities in Russia. It has consistently stood up for the needs of its members in times of urgency.\n
