Third Russia-Africa Summit Confirmed for Moscow

Moscow will host the third Russia-Africa Summit on 28-29 October. The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed the dates.

Anatoly Bashkin announced the news. He directs the Africa Department at the ministry. Bashkin spoke to RIA Novosti.

Several African leaders have already confirmed their attendance. Bashkin said confirmations came in at a working level.

Preparation Timeline

The summit planning began earlier this year.

In March, Kenyan Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi announced the October timeframe. He spoke after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

President Vladimir Putin later approved Moscow as the host city. He also created an organising committee. Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov will lead the committee.

Putin intends to attend the summit. Russia’s ambassador to Senegal confirmed this in January. The ambassador, Dmitry Kurakov, said location does not matter. Putin will be there.

Previous Summits of Russia-Africa summit

This will be the third Russia-Africa Summit.

The first summit took place in Sochi in October 2019. President Putin co-chaired the event. He shared the role with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. El-Sisi was then the Chairperson of the African Union.

The second summit happened in St Petersburg in August 2023.
