Ghana’s Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) has recorded GH¢7.82 billion in mineral royalty receipts between January and September 2026, placing it on course to exceed its annual target of approximately GH¢9 billion.

According to Graphic Online, the receipts represent a 106 per cent increase compared with the GH¢3.79 billion recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.

The Fund attributed the increase to higher gold prices, resilient production levels, enhanced monitoring of mining activities and the introduction of a sliding-scale royalty mechanism.

Large-scale gold mining accounted for approximately GH¢7.66 billion of the receipts during the first nine months of the year, compared with GH¢3.54 billion in the same period of 2025.

The sliding-scale mechanism adjusts royalty rates according to prevailing mineral prices, allowing the State to capture a greater share of mineral revenues when prices rise.

The performance highlights the importance of Ghana’s mining sector to public revenue. However, effective revenue management, transparency and investment in productive sectors remain essential to ensuring that the country’s mineral wealth delivers lasting benefits to citizens.
