The Ghana Health Service (GHS), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), is undertaking a nationwide school-based immunisation campaign to improve uptake of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine among eligible girls.
In a statement reported by Graphic Online on October 19, the GHS said the exercise forms part of the Periodic Intensification of Routine Immunisation programme, which aims to raise awareness of HPV vaccination and strengthen protection against cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases.
The campaign has two scheduled rounds. The first runs from October 19 to October 23, 2026, while the second is planned for November 30 to December 4, 2026.
The programme targets eligible girls aged 9 to 14 who need the HPV vaccine, with health teams working alongside schools and communities to improve coverage.
The Ghana Health Service has called on parents, guardians, teachers, school authorities and community leaders to cooperate with vaccination teams.
HPV vaccination is an important preventive health measure because persistent infection with certain types of the virus can lead to cervical cancer.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to follow official guidance from health authorities and their children’s schools regarding eligibility and vaccination arrangements.
