The Association of Compatriots, Ghanaian Community in Russia (GC) successfully hosted the Kakalika Summer Picnic 2026 at Kuzminki Park in Moscow, held on the 25th of July. This event brought together an estimated 200 to 250 people for a day filled with culture, unity, food and recreation.

The event, held under the theme “Come Let’s Bond as One Ghanaian Family in Russia,” attracted Ghanaians from different parts of Russia, as well as Russian friends and guests, creating an atmosphere that celebrated friendship, cultural exchange and community.

The picnic was graced by H.E. Dr. Steem Koma Jehu-Appiah, Ghana’s Ambassador to Russia and the CIS countries, who attended with his wife and son. Also present were Mr. Herbert Addy-Nettey, Minister-Counsellor (Political and Economic); Dr. Abiel Ashitey Armah, Minister-Counsellor and Head of Chancery; and Mr. Isaac K. Agyekum, Minister-Counsellor (Education).

Their presence highlighted the Embassy’s continued support for the Ghanaian community living in Russia.

Beyond reconnecting friends and families, the event featured a variety of recreational activities, including badminton, sack races and other fun games that encouraged participation from both children and adults.

One of the day’s biggest highlights was the food. Members of the Ghanaian community contributed towards the catering, with additional support from the Embassy of Ghana in Moscow. The women of the community volunteered their time to prepare authentic Ghanaian meals, serving favourites such as jollof rice, waakye and other traditional dishes that gave attendees a taste of home.

The Kakalika Summer Picnic was more than just a social gathering. It served as a platform for strengthening relationships within the Ghanaian diaspora, welcoming newcomers, and introducing Ghana’s rich culture and hospitality to friends from other nationalities.

As the day came to a close, participants left with renewed friendships, cherished memories and a stronger sense of belonging, reinforcing the Association of Compatriots’ commitment to keeping the Ghanaian spirit alive thousands of kilometres away from home.

The success of Kakalika Summer Picnic 2026 once again demonstrated the unity, resilience and vibrant cultural identity of the Ghanaian community in Russia, proving that no matter the distance, home is where Ghanaians come together.
