Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has ordered security agencies to launch a massive manhunt for the gunmen who abducted a woman in broad daylight at the bustling Vegetable Market along Airport Road in Benin City.
Describing the incident as unacceptable and a direct attack on innocent residents, the governor said those behind the abduction must be brought to justice without delay.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojele, Governor Okpebholo directed the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, to immediately begin a swift and coordinated investigation aimed at securing the victim’s safe rescue and arresting the suspects involved.
The governor stressed that his administration would not tolerate criminal acts that threaten the safety and security of Edo residents.
He also urged citizens across the state to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, assuring them that the government would pursue the perpetrators until they are apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.
CCTV footage of the incident, which has since sparked public outrage, reportedly showed the kidnappers arriving in a red vehicle before blocking the victim’s car. The armed men were then seen firing at the tyres of the targeted vehicle before carrying out the abduction.
The daring daytime attack has renewed concerns over security in Benin City, with many residents calling for stronger measures to curb rising cases of violent crime.
