The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have moved closer to the completion of a major engineering operation dubbed the “Race to Sawua,” with military engineers now having just six kilometres left to cover after successfully navigating 170 kilometres of challenging terrain.

In an update shared by the Ghana Armed Forces on September 3, the military highlighted the remarkable progress made by its engineers, who have demonstrated what it described as exceptional grit, discipline and precision throughout the demanding operation. With the total distance standing at 176 kilometres, the completion of 170 kilometres means the team has covered more than 96 percent of the route, leaving only a final six-kilometre stretch before reaching Sawua.

The operation has placed the engineering capabilities of the Ghana Armed Forces in the spotlight, as personnel continue to work through difficult terrain while maintaining the discipline and determination associated with military operations. The progress also reflects the broader role of the Armed Forces in supporting national development through specialised engineering expertise and logistical capabilities.

According to the Ghana Armed Forces, the journey has been characterised by “military discipline, precision, and unwavering service to the nation,” with the latest milestone suggesting that the long and challenging race is now firmly within its final stages.

The significance of the development extends beyond the kilometres already covered, as the operation demonstrates the capacity of Ghanaian military engineers to undertake demanding infrastructure-related assignments under challenging conditions. Their progress towards Sawua therefore represents not only a physical journey across difficult terrain but also a demonstration of professional commitment and national service.

With just six kilometres remaining, the finish line is now clearly within sight, and the Ghana Armed Forces’ message is unmistakable: after conquering the vast majority of the route, the Race to Sawua is almost won.
