The first game of Group C at the Morocco vs Brazil World Cup 2026 tournament delivered everything fans expected; intensity, quality, and moments of individual brilliance as the teams shared a 1–1 draw in a fiercely contested encounter.

It was a match that lived up to its billing, with both sides pushing the tempo from the opening whistle and refusing to back down in what quickly became a high-speed tactical battle.

Morocco struck first through I. Saibari in the 21st minute, sending a wave of excitement through the Atlas Lions’ supporters and once again underlining why this Moroccan generation is regarded as one of Africa’s most technically gifted teams.

But Brazil responded like champions are expected to. Just over ten minutes later, V. Júnior levelled the score in the 32nd minute, restoring balance to a match that had already begun to feel like a heavyweight boxing contest.

From that point on, the game opened up even further, with both teams creating chances and stretching each other across the pitch. Morocco, however, remained disciplined and dangerous in transition, refusing to be overwhelmed by Brazil’s attacking quality.

The moment of the match came in stoppage time at the end of the first half, when Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou (Bono) produced a crucial save to keep the score level at 1–1 heading into the break. It was the kind of intervention that reminded fans why Morocco are no longer seen as underdogs on the world stage.

The second half remained tight and emotionally charged, with both sides searching for a breakthrough but neither willing to overcommit. Brazil dominated spells of possession, while Morocco continued to threaten on the counter.

In the end, neither side could find a winner, and the match finished 1–1, a result that leaves Group C wide open after its first round of fixtures.

Morocco will take confidence from their performance against one of the tournament favourites, while Brazil will feel they had enough moments to secure all three points.

If anything is clear after this encounter, it is that Morocco are no longer simply participants at the World Cup, they are competitors capable of standing toe-to-toe with the very best.

Group C has officially begun and it already looks unpredictable.
