South Africa xenophobia. The government of South Africa has raised concerns about the growing economic impact of xenophobia allegations against the country, saying businesses and entertainers are increasingly facing repercussions across Africa.
Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, said the fallout from recent controversies has affected South African companies operating abroad and led to the cancellation of performances by local artistes on the continent.
Speaking in an interview with SABC on Sunday, Kubayi maintained that government actions targeting illegal immigration should not be mistaken for xenophobia directed at African nationals.

According to the minister, the government has been engaging affected businesses and providing support through diplomatic and consular and noted that South Africa’s entertainment industry has been among the hardest by the backlash
Kubayi revealed that one entertainer personally informed her that all scheduled performances outside South Africa had been cancelled, resulting in a major loss of income
She called for a distinction between efforts to address illegal immigration and the treatment of foreigners who reside legally in South Africa.
The remarks come amid renewed criticism of South Africa following reports of anti-immigrant incidents that prompted countries including Nigeria, Ghana and Malawi to evacuate some of their citizens
